What To Read Instead #8 : Guides to prospering -- Garbo

Your love gives me such a thrill/But your love don't pay my bills

-- Barrett Strong, "Money (That's What I Want)"

Nearly everybody's been in the place where they notice that they have worked really hard for a long time and yet they do not have all the money they need or want. And nearly everybody has sought an answer, sometimes in a book.

 Books to skip

The Millionaire Fastlane by MJ DeMarco

Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill

Why to skip them

Positive thinking is helpful, I know, but do you believe that's really the basis of the whole all-work-no-problem? And maybe there's something in between being where you are now and being a millionaire? One more thought: If you've read Agatha Christie or watched any of the Alfred Hitchcock television shows, you know the fast lane to big money probably doesn't take you anywhere you really want to go.

The Spiritual Basis of True Prosperity by Roy Eugene Davis.

Why read it?

Well, you can download it for $5 at this website.   Or you can buy it used online for around $6.50. It's a faster read than either of the other two. And Davis has you think about whether it's actual dollars you really want, or whether your real desire might be to prosper and be successful and happy -- with a few bucks in your pocket and the light bill paid.

Disclaimer:  I suggest skipping books, but there's always a substitute offering in these posts. I never suggest skipping a book and playing more video games or spending more time doomscrolling. And I am not banning, condemning, harming, or trashing the books I recommend skipping. There's nothing wrong with the titles I suggest skipping; it's just a matter of making choices with limited time to read in a busy, busy world.
